Maldon is a 40MW/40MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located in Essex, England providing vital flexibility to enable more renewable energy generation and increase the resilience of the UK electricity network. The Maldon BESS is operational since September 2024.
To meet net zero by 2050, the UK Government has committed to decarbonise the electricity system by 2035. Battery storage is a critical enabler of this transition. Located on the outskirts of London, the Maldon BESS helps to store and shift renewable energy to times of day when it is most needed, while helping to balance electricity supply and demand second-by-second. The Maldon BESS owned by Eku Energy, will be serviced and maintained by Trina Storage and is anticipated to operate for more than 20 years.
At Eku, we take community engagement and benefits sharing seriously. We want to ensure that our Williamsdale BESS grants program can support a broad range of initiatives that can deliver long-lasting, positive impacts for surrounding communities.
Through ongoing community engagement, we have co-designed the following Investment Principles to guide the program design. We welcome applications that support or are in-line with the following:
[A] Employment and education: Initiatives that support educational or employment outcomes (e.g. literacy; numeracy; science, technology, engineering and maths).
[B] Social connectedness: Initiatives that support community connectedness, wellbeing and livability.
[C] Environmental: Initiatives that support or drive sustainability and environmental outcomes.
