Situated within the Rangebank Business Park in Melbourne’s southeast, the Rangebank Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) provides 200MW / 400MWh capacity of reliable and flexible energy to Victorians since completion in late 2024.
Jointly developed by Eku Energy and Shell Energy with minority equity partner, Perfection Private, the grid-scale battery is connected to Victoria’s transmission network at the Cranbourne Terminal Station. The Rangebank BESS helps to increase Victoria’s renewable energy hosting capacity and provides essential system services that support the safe, secure and reliable operation of Australia’s energy system.
The BESS is built, serviced, and maintained by Fluence, a global provider of energy storage products and services, and cloud-based software for renewables and storage, utilising Fluence’s latest GridstackTM product.
At Eku, we take community engagement and benefits sharing seriously. We want to ensure that our Williamsdale BESS grants program has long-lasting, positive impact on the community around Tuggeranong.
We therefore established the following Investment Principles to guide the program and support the following initiatives:
[A] Employment and education: Initiatives that support educational or employment outcomes (e.g. literacy; numeracy; science, technology, engineering and maths).
[B] Social connectedness: Initiatives that support community connectedness, wellbeing and livability.
[C] Environmental: Initiatives that support or drive sustainability and environmental outcomes.
