Daniel Burrows

Daniel Burrows is the CEO of Eku Energy. He leads a team of global specialists focused on driving innovative energy storage solutions that deliver safe, secure and reliable clean energy to our customers and communities in the United Kingdom, Australia, Europe and Japan. As a member of the founding team, Daniel helped create Eku Energy as a standalone business in 2022 after being part of its whole incubation process within the Macquarie Group, honing Eku Energy’s business model and investment theses for a number of years.

Under Daniel’s leadership, Eku Energy’s portfolio has expanded to 50+ projects, has secured multiple revenue contracts and has safely delivered assets into commercial operations. This has included converting the first former coal fired power station into an operational BESS and leading partnerships with Shell, ENGIE, Tokyo Gas and the ACT Government.

Daniel has spent approximately 20 years in principal investments, financial advisory and company strategy in various roles within the Macquarie Group. Daniel has had the opportunity to lead teams in creating wind, solar, energy from waste and battery energy storage assets in businesses across Australia, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Italy and Taiwan. This experience spans the full project life cycle from development, delivery and active management of operating assets. In addition, he has led acquisitions, divestments, equity and debt financings and equity joint venture partnerships across development, construction and operations. In addition to his experience in the energy transition and renewables, Daniel was involved in investing in and advising on television, radio, telecommunication towers and technology businesses. Daniel had the opportunity to Deputy Chair the Domino's Pizza China board through a period of rapid growth whilst honing its business model.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting and Finance from the University of Notre Dame, Australia.

Daniel is passionate about building great businesses with great people. The common theme through Daniel’s experience has been a strong focus on value creation and doing so through partnerships, growth and driving high performance and achievement-focused teams across management, board and shareholder levels. At Eku, Daniel’s mission is to establish a technology enabled energy storage business that develops, builds, and actively manages energy storage assets for the long term by creating appropriate risk adjusted returns through innovation and market leadership in revenue contracting. Eku will be a game changer in delivering more cost-effective clean energy for our planet.

Daniel is incredibly lucky to have a remarkable wife Jacqueline, two children and a loyal dog Raffy. A highlight of his day is an occasional glass of red wine or doing a Les Mills pump class with Jacqueline. While calling London home at present, a favourite Australian activity is paddle boarding in Sydney (harbour or beach). A testament to his tenacity is his unwavering belief that he will see his AFL team the Fremantle Dockers win a premiership at the MCG, however he is looking forward to learning more about English Football and picking a winning team here.
